I haven’t written a blog type thing for a while, I thought I would update anyone interested on progress with “A fire in the night” and other bits and or bobs.
So the book is still with beta readers, so far I have had some great feedback, really useful points to action in the next draft and some confirmations on things I wanted to tweak anyway. So its all coming up roses for “A fire in the night” I’m still waiting for a large chunk of beta’s to finish reading and as I haven’t gone down a paid beta reader route I’m being patient, those I have asked have lives and work to juggle around reading my book so patience is key, if not in short supply sometimes, I can be such a fidget, I am really grateful to my beta readers and can not wait for more feedback.
With that in mind it means I have focused on writing some more shorts, Hildri went up a little while ago and Spellmark has gone up today. Spellmark was my way of playing around with how arcane magic works on Coridan. There are many types of magic, the most common being arcane, and at some point I will write a short that details the difference between arcane, fae, eldritch and the very rare divine magic, as well as some of the other uses of magical energies like runes and glyphs in Gnomish devices etc. I have a few fun ideas for that short so keep your eyes peeled.
Not only did I figure out how to make a newsletter subscription (although I do not have enough subscribers to justify a newsletter, yet) I also made a facebook “page” for my writing. As an aspiring fantasy author I figured the earlier I can get people interested in my writing and the world of Coridan the better chance I have of selling books if I decide to self publish, and even If I dont its nice to have a way to share the news about my writing and hopefully get some feedback.
What’s next? Well I plan on writing some more shorts in November, I’m also going to flesh out more of the plot for the rest of the Divine tears Saga and work on the map of Coridan, once I’m happy I have enough key locations mapped and fleshed out I will commission an artist to draw a nice looking map, my drawing skills leave a lot to be desired.
So, thats all from me, for now, please feel free to comment on the shorts, or even this post, everything is a learning experience for me and feedback, critique (be gentle but honest) is always appreciated.
All the best
JJ
